City/Town: MacGregor
Region: Portage la Prairie

General Notes:
This large cottonwood tree is located along the south side of Trans Canada highway four miles east of MacGregor.

Affectionately known as the (south) 'Half-Way Tree' because of its proximity between Brandon and Winnipeg, this is one of the most recognizable trees in the province (see also the (north) Half-Way Tree here PPR/0054). It has been recorded in several historical articles, and even had a song written about it.

It would be a shame if anything were to happen to this tree, and would leave a big hole in the local landscape(Sawatzky, N., 2015).
