One of Manitoba's oldest trees is situated in Victoria Park in the town of Souris. It is a bur oak, and is reputed to be at least 500 years old by local dignitaries and residents. Its gnarled appearance and somewhat decadent condition attest to advanced age. An appropriate sign bearing the title "Old Oak Tree" has been erected in the park to indicate the specific location of the tree. This historic old oak tree is mentioned in the book, "The Souris Plains" by G.A. McMorran, 1956.
